BBQ Sausage Oven Bake recipe

Sausages are baked in an easy BBQ style sauce in this simple meal. Serve it up to kids and adults alike with some smooth creamy mash or roasted new potatoes.

Ingredients:

  • 500g sausages
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 onion
  • 1 celery stick
  • 2 tbsp. plain flour
  • 500ml hot water (from the sausages)
  • 1 tbsp. each tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar and dark brown soft sugar
  • 1 tsp. mustard powder

Directions:

  1. Grate the carrot, finely chop the onion and cut the celery into small chunks. Chop the sausages into chunks.

  2. Place the sausages, carrot, onion and celery stick into a pan. Add enough water to cover, then bring to the boil. Cook for five minutes.

  3. Drain the sausages and veggies, but reserve 500ml of the cooking liquor.

  4. Place the sausages, carrot, onion and celery into an oven dish.

  5. Mix the flour, tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic, sugar and mustard powder, then gradually add the hot sausage water, mixing until you have a smooth sauce.

  6. Pour the sauce over the sausages and veggies, then pop into a 180C oven for about an hour and a half until the sausages are tender and the sauce thick.

You can also cook this dish on the hob over a low heat or even in a slow cooker. Add a tin of tomatoes to bulk out the sauce a little bit. This recipe serves 4.
